Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu meets teacher unions

 The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Kwazi Mshengu met with leaders of the 3 Teacher Unions on Friday, 29 May 2020 to discuss issues pertaining to the preparations for the re-opening of schools. The unions present were SADTU, NATU and NAPTOSA. 

The meeting agreed on the establishment of the KZN Education Command Council to be Chaired by the MEC. This Council has a mandate to provide leadership on all matters pertaining to the preparations of the re-opening of schools. 

The meeting agreed on the strengthened working of the already established committees which will be reporting to the KZN Education Command Council. 

The parties further agreed to establish a committee that will verify the statistics of schools that are ready including the quantities delivered. 

The Department and the Unions committed themselves into pursuing an objective preparation of schools which will be underpinned by the compliance to all non-negotiable(s) as adopted by the sector.
